I was going to write an article on how to build a website using Google Pages.

* I turned on my computer
* Opened MS Word (my preferred word processor)
* Connected to the Internet
* Used the URL to access Google pages

and…

Well, I found this waiting for me.

"Google Page Creator is no longer accepting new sign-ups."

Apparently this happened sometime in August from what I can tell.

The good news is that if you already have an account on Google Pages that account is still available for accessing.

The bad news is obvious. If you don't yet have an account with Google Pages it's to late to start one.

Google has been so helpful in the past.

* Blogger.com
* Adsense
* AdWords
* Google Search

These are just some of the ways Google has helped people use the web to it's fullest.

So why would it rip out the carpet from under our feet when it comes to Google Pages?

Actually, that's not exactly what's happening.

Introducing Google Sites!

Yup, this isn't all bad news. Google Sites provides many if not most of the abilities of Google Pages while adding brand new abilities that simply were not available before.

Features like…
* Site-level navigation
* Site-level headers
* Ability to control who will see or edit your website
* Add items like calendars, videos and Google documents

Google Sites will thus become the new and improved version of Google Pages. So, while Google page creator is no longer going to be available Google Sites promises to be even better with the best part being that it still costs absolutely nothing to use.
