RSS feeds and blogs are all over the internet. Tools and services are mushrooming every day adding to the numerous options available to a reader online. RSS feeds is a tool that has caught up with all like rapid fire.
The most basic of all reasons as to why you should use RSS feeds is to keep your visitors abreast of all the updates in your webpage. If you own a page where you keep altering content or adding new information, it is wise to have an RSS feed option. A reader that subscribes to the feed option will be automatically intimated about the update. This way, you can keep your people in loop as to what is going on in your page. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is the perfect way to get across information in a hassle free manner.
Feeds normally carry large quantities of content and that’s not what people are going to put in their RSS aggregators. A basic RSS feed consists of a number of items with a title, a short extract or description of the full source and the link to the full content source. RSS feeds do not contain static items. Information keeps changing as and when updated. People who subscribe to feeds are those that are looking for new, quick updates on subjects they are interested in. So if you are going to provide feed options, you have to update them continually.
Blogging is one way you can produce a feed. You don’t need to be tech-savvy to get a blog set up. You can use a blog merely as a feed generator. You can blog just about anything, but the key here is to add valuable content to the blog on a continuous basis.
Your blog will produce some type of RSS feed. Blogger produces an atom feed. Some other services provide other types of feeds with varying amount of automation.
After you have a feed and content, you now have to publicize the feed so that more people subscribe to it. Add your feed to RSS search engines and RSS directories. You could also add your blog to blog search engines and blog directories. Hence, this is a simple, low cost way of generating traffic.
A good blog will get linked onto other blogs, commented on and other bloggers may pick up your feed as well. These are all sources of bringing in invaluable amounts of traffic.
Search engines love fresh content and naturally they love blogs! They have a friendly spider structure and eventually as your blog pages get indexed in the search engines, you are likely to get direct search engine traffic as well.
RSS is technology combined with convenience and ensures amazing visibility and ropes in traffic from all corners. Well worth a try, don’t you think?
